"Symbiotic Engineering has opened up educational opportunities to Valparaiso University as well as within the greater Chicagoland area in a manner which has transformed how we prepare our business students to truly be leaders in the global marketplace.  As the last century's "business as usual" has proven to be disastrous in so many ways, SE's tutelage and invitation to participate in the "triple line" analysis of a company's operations has demonstrated, first-hand, that we must concentrate not just on shareholder interests, but on the needs of all stakeholders; move from the "bottom line" guiding principle to the "triple bottom line" emphasis where social responsibility and environmental stewardship are key metrics in measururing a business's sucess; and incorporate activities which take the student outside the classroom."

Sustainability Reporting and Assurance

Symbiotic Engineering has been an Organizational Stakeholder with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) since 2007. We believe that the GRI G3 Protocol provides the framework for tracking and reporting metrics that include indicators from the economic, ecologic and equity components of sustainability, as AA1000AS – 2008 does for assurance reporting.

Symbiotic Engineering currently provides quality control consulting to the GRI for the Mountain States region of the United States.

We will work with companies, utilities, municipalities, and other agencies, utilizing the G3 guidelines and the appropriate sector supplements to establish a process for benchmarking, tracking, goal setting and monitoring. From the established process, annual sustainability reports can be generated.

GRI’s Matchmaker Program

Symbiotic is currently working with Valparaiso University to prepare our own sustainability report. The Matchmaker program allows for an unbiased overview of a company’s operations and provides the additional academic rigor in reporting. Please check the About Us page where we will post our CSR once complete!

Stakeholders

For cities or utilities that have our CarbonCity SIMS in place, our personal interface (Piglet) can be used to track individual energy, create social groups, and also allow individuals to answer surveys regarding sustainability metrics of interest to the city or utility.
