Quantification Tools
Symbiotic Engineering has a suite of tools designed to help clients better quantify, track, analyze, and
report metrics related to their economic, environmental, and social sustainability. The tools are
constructed using robust platforms that allow for customization to meet the unique needs of each client.
Symbiotic Engineering’s tools are also developed to function as software-as-service thereby eliminating
the need for clients to purchase new hardware or to install software on their systems unless they prefer
to operate everything in-house. As outlined below, Symbiotic Engineering has tools to report and
address sustainability both on a company and on a community level.
Sustainability for your Company
Sustainability for your company includes examining the economic, environmental, and social impacts at
all levels of your company ranging from energy use at facilities across the country to the life cycle impacts
of individual products or buildings.
|
CarbonCo uses the latest database technology to store and
manage your GHG data. CarbonCo is equipped with powerful
querying and reporting features that allow for detailed analyses
while the GIS-based spatial mapping feature provides a
dashboard view of facilities, critical data and other selected
attributes. The sustainability metrics tracked in the tool can be
customized to meet the needs of your company.

Built Carbon focuses on analyzing individual construction
projects. By using Built Carbon, project managers can
evaluate the embodied energy and embodied greenhouse gas
emissions of proposed buildings and can run scenarios to
determine how changes in material selection or material source
locations can impact overall project impacts.

Sustainability for your Community
Increasing sustainability for your community requires both a top-down and a bottom-up approach.
Symbiotic Engineering’s top-down tools provide sustainability managers and officials with powerful data
analysis and reporting capabilities while the bottom-up tools facilitate community outreach to better
engage local businesses and residents in sustainability initiatives.

|
As a web-based tool, Carbon-State provides a platform to
integrate environmental activity data with physical attributes
of structures, e.g., age, size, cost, etc with standard emission
factors for a common back end quantification of a carbon
footprint per The Climate Registry (TCR) protocols. |

The custom Carbon City portal allows for spatial mapping of
all residents, businesses and exempt structures in a city and
their associated physical attributes using geographic
information system (GIS) tools and local parcel data.
Environmental activity data is entered and tracked in native
units (kWh, gallons, etc) and converted to greenhouse gas
emissions. |

|
Provides custom portals for distributing educational materials
and local branding of sustainable business and community
programs and removes the burden of developing data
storage, reporting, and calculation tools from local
sustainability programs. |
