Our Approach
Greening by the Numbers® encapsulates Symbiotic Engineering’s philosophy that sustainability and greening initiatives should be rigorously quantified using verifiable methodologies and robust analyses. We believe that all analyses should be conducted using a life cycle perspective that accounts for impacts that cascade throughout connected systems. We approach sustainability from both the top-down on an aggregate level and the bottom-up on the individual level. Our top-down approach gives cities, companies, developers, and program managers powerful tools to quantify, track, evaluate, visualize, and report on the effectiveness of their sustainability initiatives. Our bottom-up approach provides the tools and mechanisms to enhance community engagement in order to maximize the benefits of sustainability programs.
Our Quantification Tools
At Symbiotic Engineering, we have a diverse set of quantification tool platforms that can be customized to meet the requirements of our clients with greenhouse gas emission quantification and reporting according to international protocols, corporate sustainability reporting using the Global Reporting Initiative framework, life cycle assessments of products and projects using ISO 14040 methodologies, and the visual display and management of critical data from multiple facilities and locations. Our tools provide for the quantification, tracking and reporting of sustainability metrics such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, water use, construction, transportation, and waste on scales ranging from state-wide, to cities and communities, all the way down to individual companies and buildings as shown in the figure below.
