CarbonCity® SIMS
Sustainability Information Management System
Our top-down tools provide sustainability managers and officials with powerful data analysis and reporting
capabilities while the bottom-up tools facilitate community outreach to better engage local businesses and
residents in sustainability initiatives.
View Current and Historic Utility Consumption Trends Over Time
CarbonCity integrates resource activity data, geographic information systems (GIS) and numerous associated attributes of structures (e.g. footprint, date of construction, cost, etc. where available) with standard emission factors to provide for the common back-end quantification of a carbon footprint for an entity such as City facilities, or city-wide.
Utilizes Climate Registry (TCR) protocols.

Track Demand Side Management Programs to Evaluate Effectiveness
Track by number of participants, resource reduction, GHG reduction, costs, and measures.
Engage the Community – Teach for Sustainability™
Often, improvements in energy efficiency and converting to a more renewable energy supply mix are not enough to meet utility DSM and city GHG reduction goals. Additional tools are needed to facilitate social behavioral change to drive consumers to reduce energy consumption. Symbiotic Engineering's software tools, exemplified with the Teach for Sustainability pilot, are providing cities and utilities with additional tools to meet DSM goals and reduce GHG emissions.
Forming groups allows for true social engagement to reduce resource usage. An innovative program to engage kids and parents is Symbiotic Engineering’s Teach for Sustainability program being piloted in the Boulder Valley School District Fall and Spring 2009/2010.
